Academy Judo

Train. Develop. Progress.

The Leigh Judo Academy is for judoka who want to take their training and performance further. Academy sessions provide focused coaching to develop technical ability, tactical understanding, physical preparation and the mindset needed to progress.
Training goes beyond the mat. Academy members have access to our on-site gym and sports injury clinic, giving them the support and facilities to develop their strength and conditioning, manage injuries and stay physically prepared for training and competition.
Whether your goal is to compete, improve your performance or simply become a better judoka, the Academy provides the coaching, environment and support to help you reach your potential.

Benefits of academy judo

Develop your throwing, groundwork, gripping and transition skills through focused technical coaching.

Develop your throwing, groundwork, gripping and transition skills through focused technical coaching.

Learn how to build a game plan, create opportunities and adapt your judo to different opponents.

Develop the strength, conditioning, mobility and movement qualities that support effective judo.

Put techniques into practice through challenging randori and learn how to apply your judo under pressure.

For those who compete, develop the skills, strategies and preparation needed to perform effectively in competition.

Set goals, track your development and understand what you need to work on to keep progressing.

More than training

Improving at judo takes more than simply attending more sessions. It comes from understanding what you are trying to develop, being prepared to work on weaknesses and learning how to apply your skills when the pressure increases.

Academy training provides the environment, coaching and challenges to help you do that. Some judoka will have clear competition ambitions, while others simply want to see how far they can take their judo. Either way, the aim is the same: to become a more capable, confident and complete judoka.

Our

Coaching

Our expert coaching team

Academy sessions are led by coaches with experience of competitive judo and athlete development. Head Coach Luke Brown is a 5th Dan, former Great Britain international and UKCC Level 4 coach, with postgraduate qualifications in advanced sports coaching and experience developing judoka at different stages of their journey.

The coaching focuses on the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme. We identify what each judoka does well, where they need to improve and how we can challenge them to develop the technical, physical and tactical aspects of their judo.

A great place to train

The Academy has access to purpose-built judo facilities at Lowton Community Hub, including dedicated sprung-floor dojos and the space to develop both technical and physical aspects of training. It provides an environment where judoka can train regularly, work hard and focus on their development.

My son & I, we train at the Judo Club for 1 year now. Friendly & safe environment. Luke is a knowledgeable & an outstanding coach. My son is learning respect & discipline, while he is having a lot of fun at the same time. The perseverance, love & joy of learning is reflected in the children taking part in training. All judo team (Luke, Tom, Vicki & Rob) are professional coaches & they have a great ability to bring out the best in children of all levels & abilities. They interact well with children of all ages. I appreciated the focus on skill, but even more so on character - kindness & sportsmanship. Every training is a very positive experience for me & my son. I would encourage anyone, regardless of age or physical ability to give it a try, & I can think of no better group of people to pursue this Judo Club in Lowton. Thank you Aga & Brad.

My daughter has been here nearly 5 years now and still absolutely loves it. She has made life-long friends and it has also made made her quietly confident, given her manners and respect. Luke takes no messing around be it from the kids or the adults and as such you can see the kids develop into young adults with great values. This is not only a judo club. It is an extended family where everybody knows everybody and welcomes new people with open arms There is also activities outside of judo for the kids and adults. Camping. Cinema bowling trampolining and lots more. come along. You won't be disappointed.
